Calling Costa Rica to Complete Covid-19 Vaccination | News

On Friday, the Costa Rican Ministry of Health urged its population to complete the vaccination program against Covid-19 given the increase in cases detected in the last week.

The director of Epidemiological Health Surveillance of the aforementioned portfolio, Rodrigo Marín, said that the three doses and the fourth reinforcement serve to avoid worsening of the disease, hospitalizations and reduce the possibility of death.

Rodrigo Marín cited social distancing, hand washing and disinfection, covering the mouth when coughing and wearing a mask indoors.

According to the latest report from the ministry, 5,190 new infections were registered in the last week between 11 and 17 December.

This figure means an increase of 1,206 cases compared to the previous week, the 49th epidemiological week when 3,984 cases were detected.

Over the past week, the dominant variant of the virus was BQ1.1, present in 50% of the samples tested.

There was also a warning about the increase in deaths from causes related to the disease, as 13 were recorded in the week, with an average of two per day.
