Called New Variant, WHO: NeoCov Risk Needs Further Research

CELEBESMEDIA.ID, Makassar – The NeoCoV virus found in South Africa has been viral in recent times. The virus was previously reported to be associated with the Middle East respiratory syndrome MERS-CoV, whose outbreaks were recorded in 2012 and 2015.

The latest news from a number of media warns of the dangers of this virus. Scientists from Wuhan China said that recently Neocov will be more infectious and more deadly than all previous types, including Omicron.

In response, the world health organization, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed they were aware of its development, but that the virus needed further research to determine whether it poses a risk to humans.

“Whether the virus detected in this study poses a risk to humans will require further research,” the WHO was quoted as saying by the Russian news agency TASS, Friday (1/28/2022).

Previously reported NeoCov virus was found in bat populations in Africa and spread among animals.

This virus is also similar to SARS-CoV-2 which causes Covid-19 in humans. In addition to the so-called faster transmission, this virus is also potentially more deadly.

The new study, however, has not been reviewed by other experts and was released in preprint on the bioRxiv website.
