THE HAGUE –
The Federation of Islamic Organizations in The Hague has called on all member mosque organizations and non-member mosque administrators to keep the mosques closed for all activities until further notice. The reason for this is the outbreak of the coronavirus within a number of mosques.

In two mosques in The Hague, 25 visitors or their contacts have so far been tested positive for the coronavirus, the GGD Haaglanden reported Monday afternoon in an interim study of the spread. There have been 24 infections among visitors to the Al-Madinah Mosque of Faizul Islam on Loosduinseweg or their relations, contact research has found.
A contagion case has also been found at the Islamic and Cultural Association Roekoen Islam in The Hague, says the GGD. The contact investigation is still ongoing. In addition to the Al-Madinah mosque, the As-Sunnah mosque in The Hague has also decided to discontinue its activities for the time being due to an outbreak of the corona virus in the Muslim community in The Hague.
“Close mosques until further notice”
“The safety and health of visitors to the mosque and the rest of the population has priority over all other matters,” said the federation in its appeal to close the mosques for the time being. Reference is made to the position of Islamic scholars, who strongly advise closing the mosques ‘in this time of a pandemic until further notice’. It calls for “no action to be taken that endangers the health of both Muslims and non-Muslims.”
In a statement, the Sunnah government said on Sunday that it was startled by the infections. ‘We have heard through various channels that, despite some observing the RIVM measures, dozens of visitors to various mosques have become infected with the corona virus. There is even a regrettable death, ‘writes the mosque board on the website.
