California engineers create bipedal robot drone that takes off while walking

Caltech engineers have created the LEO bipedal robot that can easily switch between walking and flying.

About it tells Gizmodo.

The engineers didn’t just put a pair of robotic legs on an aerial drone – they designed the robot with walking and flight in mind and developed specialized software to integrate its various components.

LEO is a kind of proof-of-concept to see if a bipedal flying robot can perform tasks that are difficult or impossible for ground robots or aerial drones. In the future, the full-fledged version can be entrusted with complex and dangerous work, such as inspecting and repairing damaged infrastructure, installing new equipment in hard-to-reach places, or providing assistance in natural disasters and industrial accidents.

Such a robot will even be able to transport fragile equipment to the surface of a celestial body such as Mars or Saturn’s moon Titan. It can also be used in defense or in war.

As reported by “Apostrophe”, earlier the Chinese leader in the production of robotics UBTECH Robotics presented its latest development – unique humanoid robot Walker X… According to the manufacturer, the robot has a number of “revolutionary” characteristics.
