California and New York are considering blocking …

The attorneys general of California and New York state, two strongholds of the Democratic Party, are examining ways to challenge the legality of the decree signed Friday by Donald Trump temporarily prohibiting access to American territory to nationals of seven Muslim countries.

Democratic prosecutors could become a melting pot of resistance to the measures that the new President of the United States intends to implement, just as Republican prosecutors had opposed Barack Obama’s policies.

“Trump’s executive order should not exist and should be challenged as violating the Constitution,” Xavier Becerra, California’s attorney general, said in a statement. “It tramples centuries of American tradition,” he added.

In this initiative, California was joined by the State of New York to come to support the positions of Pennsylvania, the State of Washington and Hawaii, States which incline in favor of the democratic camp.

“We truly believe the executive order is unconstitutional,” said Douglas Chin, Hawaii’s attorney general, without providing details on the legal nature of the text.

“I will do everything in my power to help lead the fight to definitely bring down this decree,” said Eric Schneiderman, New York attorney, on Saturday. In a message on his Twitter account, he called on all travelers held in detention at JFK Airport in New York to contact his services.

For the moment, the extent of the mobilization of the States of the Union determined to fight this decree remains uncertain. “There are discussions going on,” said Pennsylvania Attorney General spokesman Josh Shapiro.

Four judges in Brooklyn, Boston, Alexandria (Virginia) and Seattle on the west coast over the weekend issued bans on the deportation of foreign nationals under Donald Trump’s executive order.
