Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar revealed three reasons that: election 2024 need to be postponed for reasons of economic recovery due to the pandemic Covid-19.
Cak Imin, as he is familiarly called, said that the economy of the community and business actors is currently just entering a recovery trend after being hit for two years due to the pandemic. Therefore, he wants that momentum not to be disrupted, including by the 2024 election.
“It is postponed for one or two years so that the momentum for economic improvement does not disappear and then there is no Freeze to replace the stagnation for 2 years during the pandemic,” he told reporters at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (23/2).
Cak Imin said the election would disrupt economic recovery for at least three reasons. First, he said, economic actors will usually freeze before or during the election because they will watch and wait.
Second, continued Cak Imin, the transition of power or government usually causes the pace of the economy to become uncertain. So according to him, this will disrupt the trend of economic recovery, especially after the G20 Presidency in which Indonesia is the host.
Third, said Cak Imin, the election has the potential to cause conflict and division in society. However, he hoped that the latter would not happen.
“Therefore, from all the input, I propose that the 2024 election be postponed for one or two years,” said the Deputy Speaker of the DPR.
On the other hand, he admitted that he had made many visits to various regions in recent times. The results of the visit he concluded that the current community economy has just shown a positive trend.
He also admitted that he received many inputs that until 2023, the economic improvement will show rapid improvement. Therefore, according to him, the trend of improvement should not be disturbed, including by the general election.
“Therefore, I see that in 2024 the elections, which we plan to hold in February, do not let the good economic prospects be disrupted because of the elections,” he said.
