Cafe chains destroy the home office. Costa Coffee is considering layoffs

Costa Coffee is likely to become another British chain, whose fall in demand will force it to lay off. In Britain, it owns 1,600 cafes with around 16,000 employees. As part of the changes, the company plans, among other things, to abolish the position of assistant manager of the establishment in its premises.

The company’s cafes are located mainly in city centers and their business has plummeted due to the fact that many people still work from home.

“While business is recovering, with Costa’s full VAT cuts and recent ‘eat out to help’ program, there is still a high degree of uncertainty about when business will return to pre-covid levels. , “Costa said in a statement.

Last month, the Pret A Manger coffee and sandwich chain announced it would cut 2,800 jobs due to restructuring. The operator of the PizzaExpress restaurant has decided to lay off 1,100 employees.

Costa Coffee was founded in 1971 in London by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Cost. The company currently operates in 31 countries around the world, including the Czech Republic. In 2018, the chain was bought by the beverage company Coca-Cola.
