The cabinet is still waiting with the introduction of stricter corona measures, as it appears after consultation in the Catshuis. More time is needed, sources tell our political editors. According to experts, there is a little hope: this week the effect of the ‘partial lockdown’ should become visible.
Prime Minister Rutte and the most involved ministers have discussed the corona crisis together with experts.
The RIVM experts have analyzed that the current measures are having an effect. In the course of next week, leveling off or even a decrease in the number of infections should become visible. This gives the cabinet some hope and so it is now too early to initiate all kinds of new stricter measures.

Should the fall in contamination figures fail to materialize next week, stricter measures would seem inevitable. The government’s roadmap published earlier already announced a number of heavier measures, such as further limiting the maximum group size.
It can also be decided that higher education will only take place online and public transport may again only be used for necessary journeys.

“More time is needed, there is still not enough certainty about new measures,” said political reporter Fons Lambie. “This Tuesday would be a logical moment for a new press conference. Rutte and De Jonge will probably speak to the press, but it is not expected that there will be a major press conference with a lot of new measures.”
