Cabinet: 100 million extra for homes Ukrainians and status holders | Inland

This is reported by Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Housing). The aim is already to build 15,000 flex homes every year and to convert 15,000 buildings into homes through transformation. So there is a little extra by setting up a special team and investing 100 million euros. In addition, it should go faster.

That team ‘identifies projects that can be completed quickly and helps local authorities, housing associations and other parties to quickly tackle stumbling blocks.’ De Jonge expects the investment to yield additional living space. “Building flexible homes is the fastest way to add new rental properties. The waiting lists are long and we must avoid crowding as much as possible. Whether it concerns emergency seekers, Ukrainians or status holders: we want to be able to help everyone who is entitled to a house.”

Transforming existing buildings, for example empty offices – is possible for both temporary and permanent use. Experts warn that empty offices will also run out in the Netherlands one day. So-called flex homes – a type of luxury container homes – are often prefabricated buildings that are reusable. They can often even be moved.

Yield unclear

It is unclear exactly how many more homes the investment will yield annually. The minister will make agreements about this with the regions and municipalities. “Exact numbers are unknown,” says De Jonge. He also doesn’t know how much time the investment saves.

For the time being, the housing market is still very busy. De Jonge has now given priority to status holders by calling on municipalities to give 12.5 percent of social rental housing to that group. That was 9 percent. As a result, one of the eight social rented homes now goes to asylum seekers who have been granted a residence permit.
