TEXAS SpaceX set a new record after throwing 61 pitches over the course of 2022 or double the number of pitches in 2021, a full 31 pitches. It means property of the company Elon Musk makes a launch in six days.

The Ars Technica page notes that 34 of SpaceX’s 61 launches in 2022 are aimed at building the Starlink mega-constellation, which consists of more than 3,300 operating internet satellites. Starlink is SpaceX’s massive constellation of Internet satellites, serving customers around the world.

“On average, SpaceX launches every 6 days from one of our three locations. A total of 92% of the mission was completed with the Falcon 9 first stage rocket, which now holds the world record for the most launches of a single vehicle type in a year,” SpaceX said via Twitter.

The other 27 missions serve various customers, including NASA. SpaceX has launched four missions to the International Space Station for NASA, consisting of two astronaut flights and two robotic cargo missions. The four use the Dragon capsule and the flagship Falcon 9 rocket.

The Falcon 9 rocket flew all but one of SpaceX’s orbital missions last year. The one exception was USSF-44, a flight for the US Space Force using the powerful Falcon Heavy rocket on November 1, 2022. Prior to USSF-44, Falcon Heavy had not been used since June 2019.

“Most importantly, SpaceX successfully delivered our customer’s payload to orbit. Fly important cargo and astronauts to @space_station and bring them back to Earth safely,” SpaceX added via Twitter.

As impressive as it is to make 61 jumps in a year, this new record may not last long. Elon Musk says SpaceX is aiming for a maximum of 100 launches by 2023. That means doing two launches into orbit every week.
