It is known, the black mamba has contributed to causing 258 deaths in England in 2021. One of the cities that has experienced the biggest impact is Wolverhampton.

In 2016, the city was featured in a BBC documentary about the drug epidemic. After seven years since the documentary ‘Getting Off Mamba’ was released, local residents say the problem of this ‘zombie’ drug is still raging in the community. In fact, the situation is said to be getting worse.

“It’s actually gotten worse over the years and unfortunately, nothing has changed,” said a worker at a well-known beauty chain on condition of anonymity, quoted by the Daily Express.

Not only that, many shops have their front windows smashed by people who want to steal money or sell goods. The money will be used to buy drugs.

“This is a very unpleasant situation and feels quite alarming and intimidating,” said the worker and local resident who did not want to be named.

This incident resulted in an increase in the crime rate in the city. According to data from the Crime Rate website, Wolverhampton is officially the most dangerous city in the West Midlands. It has a regional crime rate about 30 percent higher than the rest of the region and 54 percent higher than the rest of the country.

What Are Black Mambas?

Quoted from Castle Craig UK, black mamba is a substitute for synthetic cannabis which has an effect similar to cannabis. Deadly side effects led to this drug being banned in 2016 due to the Psychoactive Substances Act.

The side effects of this drug can make a person experience mental health problems, psychosis, and a deep ‘zombie’-like state, for example losing control of their body.

The drug also gives its users psychological effects, such as confusion, paranoia, extreme anxiety, hallucinations, and extreme effects such as vomiting, rapid heartbeat, violent behavior, and suicidal thoughts.

In addition, black mamba can also increase blood pressure and reduce blood supply, as well as kidney damage and seizures.
