Borussia Dortmund’s exceptional talent Giovanni Reyna has made his decision and will appear for the national team of the USA. “For me it is very clear. I will only play for the USA, this is my home,” said the 17-year-old to the “Ruhr Nachrichten”.
Decision between four nations
His father Claudio Reyna, who played for Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg for a total of four years in the Bundesliga, had once chosen the USA and participated in four world championships with the US team. Since his parents come from Argentina and Portugal and Giovanni grew up in England, the young BVB professional should choose one of four national teams.
Reyna has already accepted the invitation from US national coach Gregg Berhalter for the friendly against the Netherlands and Wales at the end of March. It was “exciting news”, he said: “Maybe I can make my debut. I am definitely ready.”
Reyna made his professional debut for BVB at the second half of the season in Augsburg and has since been used in nine competitive games in three competitions.
