BVB, News: Fjörthoft counters Lehmann’s criticism of Haaland
Jens Lehmann recently criticized Erling Haaland for his fitness level at the Image, stating that the Norwegian should take an example from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo . “When you’re 20, you think you don’t need stretching and weight room. We all think it’s great that Ronaldo is living an ascetic life at 36, is still really fast and in good shape, plays in the Premier League. And I would take that as a role model as a young player. He has to do more for himself. You can’t say you’re unlucky.”
Jan Aage Fjörthoft, the striker’s close friend and companion, countered this criticism shortly afterwards and stated that Haaland was a model professional. “I don’t know anyone who works as professionally as Erling Haaland. He’s what you call a 24/7 athlete. He’s trying to find improvements all the time – on and off the pitch.”
Since the Norwegian has been playing for BVB, he has been injured for a total of 121 days – mostly due to muscle injuries. A game against Glasgow Rangers on Thursday in the Europa League is also unlikely.
Haaland did not train with his teammates on Monday, but individually with his personal physiotherapist. If so, he could celebrate his return against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday.
