To face the pandemic of Covid-19, the government of the State of Mexico reports a purchase of 4 million 761 thousand pesos for hidroxicloroquina, a medicine that the federal Secretary of Health considers still under investigation.
According to the microsite edomex.gob.mx/presupuesto-covid-19, the Institute of Health of the State of Mexico (ISEM) signed the ISEM contract ADQ-ADPURE-054-20 to acquire through a direct award a batch of the drug that was sold by the company Medical Equipment Options.
The contract was signed on March 31 of this year under the name of Acquisition of Medicines (hidroxicloroquina 200 mg).
In this regard, the ISEM Health coordinator, Carlos Aranza, indicated that due to the need for therapeutic treatment in the care of Covid-19 patients, the purchase of this drug was requested.
As time elapsed and more details of adverse effects of the mentioned drug were published, the prescription to patients was stopped and hydroxychloroquine stopped usingr, added the ISEM official.
During the night conference of July 15 of the Federal Secretary of Health, the director general of the Coordination of the National Institutes of Health, Simón Kawa Karasik, reiterated that there is no treatment specific pharmacological for Covid-19.
Kawa clarified that there are other treatments that are still being tested, with the potential to generate some benefit, but so far nothing has been proven.
And they can only be used under very strict and study conditions, which are remdesivir, favipiravir, lopinavir / ritonavir, chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, baricitinib, tocilizumab, sarilumab, anakinra and convalescent plasma.
