Busiest Travel Days Before Christmas Revealed: Surprising Insights from Avinor

Are you going to fly before Christmas? Or are you going to send someone off or are you waiting for someone to come home by plane? Then you should read on.

For now, Avinor can reveal which days will be the busiest before Christmas. And the day may not be what you think.

Surprises

Christmas Eve is Sunday 24 December. And on that day, the vast majority will hopefully have arrived safely where they are going.

Out of a total of 862,000 passengers to the four largest airports in this country, only 30,000 passengers get on and off the planes that day.

What may surprise many is the large number of travelers on Friday 15 December.

The entire 111,000 passengers have a false start and set off before Christmas and will fly out on this day. There are only 2,000 fewer passengers than on the biggest departure day – Thursday 21 December.

The luggage top

Friday 22 December – which is Christmas Eve – is also well attended. Then 109,000 travelers will leave. These two days in week 51 are considered extra busy because many people have to bring extra luggage with them.

Shock sight on flydo

Friday 22 December is the busiest departure day, but there are several other days with almost as many passengers. As early as Friday 15 December, many people travel, and every day until Christmas Eve there are big departure days, says Stine Ramstad Westby, executive director for the airports in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger.

They are ready

She says that all Avinor’s airports are ready for this year’s Christmas departure:

The southern favorite will be more expensive

– We want to give people the best start to the Christmas holidays that we can. We are well staffed and are ready for the last big departure of the year, which this year comes close to Christmas Eve.

– Christmas Eve naturally calms down, but there is also some flying on Christmas Eve itself, says Ramstad Westby.

– There are many things you can do yourself to have the lowest possible shoulders on the flight.

– Lacks common sense

If you prepare well by packing smart, you will avoid getting stuck at check-in or the security check, says the executive director, who encourages passengers to follow the information from the airline when it comes to arriving at the airport.
