A burglary at a telephone parts store in Deventer turned into something reminiscent of a Laurel and Hardy film. Two clumsy burglars caused a lot of damage and ultimately escaped with a meager loot.
“These are bizarre images,” says police spokesperson Sven Strijbosch RTV East. “To do something so complicated for a pair of white sneakers and some telephone screens. They destroyed the side wall of the building, a display case was destroyed and all the postal packages were opened. Everything was turned upside down.”

Burglars climb through a hole in the wall
The police call it a bizarre burglary. The duo first makes a special entrance. They do not enter by breaking open a door or forcing a window, but by making a small hole in the wall through which they squeeze themselves. The first burglar hit a shelving unit, which fell over. The second burglar then squeezes through the hole.
Once inside, they cut open all the mail packages to see if there is anything useful for them. They take white sneakers out of the box and one of the burglars tries on both shoes. Apparently they fit just fine, because he keeps them on throughout the burglary. The same goes for a green jacket.
The other burglar searches the other areas of the store for loot. This ultimately results in a number of phone screens. They place all other items that they can use on the counter. But they get into an argument after which they crawl back out through the tight hole without the things on the counter.
Maximum effort, minimum result
“They worked up a sweat for a loot of nothing,” says Strijbosch. “Moreover, they are recognizable on the screen, because they were probably slightly less sharp due to fatigue. We hope that someone recognizes these men.”
