Today, Bungie provided fans with an exciting look at its highly anticipated upcoming expansion for Destiny 2, titled “The Final Shape.” In a recent showcase, the game developer unveiled a host of new features, including a groundbreaking subclass, a menacing enemy faction, and an exotic class item with game-altering abilities.
Introduction of the Prismatic Subclass
Bungie kicked off the showcase with a game-changing subclass called Prismatic. Unlike previous subclasses focused on a single element, Prismatic allows players to harness the power of both Light and Dark subclasses simultaneously. This groundbreaking move opens up a whole new world of possibilities for build crafting in Destiny 2. With the ability to combine the strengths of both archetypes, players can expect unparalleled chaos and excitement in their gameplay.
Game developers expressed the immense potential of the Prismatic subclass through various anecdotes. Titans can wield formerly Warlock-exclusive perks, and Warlocks can harness abilities previously limited to Titans. Developers intentionally planned for the randomization of exotic perks, hoping to create enticing incentives for players to pursue exotic gear and experiment with unstoppable combinations of abilities. In the words of one developer, “We want it to feel a little broken.”
A Horrifying New Enemy Faction: The Dread
In addition to the game-changing subclass, Bungie revealed a formidable new enemy faction known as the Dread. Drawing inspiration from the Tormentors mini-bosses and the Witness, the antagonist of Destiny 2, the Dread faction introduces a variety of terrifying foes.
A standout member of the Dread faction is the Grim, a fearsome winged enemy often referred to as a “gunbat.” Grim possesses the ability to suppress player abilities with its piercing screech. Joining the Grim are Husks, agile melee bruisers that, when defeated unconventionally, release Geists that relentlessly pursue players.
Attendants and Weavers, two other enemy types within the Dread faction, can wield Stasis and Strand abilities, respectively. Weavers, in particular, are capable of pulling players across the arena, an unprecedented move that adds a thrilling new dynamic to battles. This emphasis on introducing fresh enemy types showcases Bungie’s commitment to delivering captivating content.
