Bundesliga: That was Saturday, that comes on Sunday, 4th matchday – news ticker

The league heavyweights were responsible for the big spectacle on the Bundesliga Saturday. Football record champions FC Bayern Munich won 4-1 against challenger RB when Julian Nagelsmann returned to Leipzig.

Things were even wilder in Leverkusen, where Borussia Dortmund got the upper hand 4-3. At the top, however, is still flawless VfL Wolfsburg.

MAGIC APPRENTICE: Jamal Musiala delighted Munich fans and colleagues when Bayern won the top game in the league. “He was absolutely the magician of the game,” said national team mate Thomas Müller about the 18-year-old. Substituted for the ailing Serge Gnabry, Musiala made it 2-0 and prepared the 3-0 marvelously. “He is really extraordinary when it comes to his skills and character traits,” said coach Julian Nagelsmann. Müller also enthused: “He is humble and hardworking. This overall package at a young age makes him special.”

GATE MACHINE: Of course, Erling Haaland could not be absent from Dortmund’s seven-goal spectacle in Leverkusen. A double pack, including the winning goal from a penalty kick – the angry Bayer fans could throw as many beer mugs at the Norwegian. The provocative gestures of the 21-year-old, however, did not appeal to licensed player boss Sebastian Kehl. “I took it straight away and told him not to do that,” said Kehl. Despite all the relief about the victory after being behind three times, the defense continues to worry BVB. “We can’t always score that many goals,” said captain Marco Reus.

LEADER: VfL Wolfsburg has never achieved four wins in the first four match days in the Bundesliga. Coach Mark van Bommel has formed a team that doesn’t always play well at the moment, but is successful. The former Bavarian and his new team are still ahead of the Munich team. In the 2-0 win in Fürth, it was mainly the efficiency that was right. “The team didn’t panic and know what to do on the pitch,” said van Bommel. Next stage: Champions League opener in Lille.

SUCCESSFUL: Under Bo Svensson, the steep upward trend in Mainz continues almost uninterrupted. Three wins from four games – the Rheinhessen already have more points than after the entire first half of the previous season. Fourth place is a remarkable snapshot. “You can build on the start, the development continues,” said sports director Martin Schmidt, who identified “passion, commitment and motivation” as the recipe for the 2-0 win in Hoffenheim.

START PROBLEM: The fourth matchday will be concluded on Sunday with three games between clubs from the lower half of the table. First of all, Eintracht from Frankfurt, which has not yet won, receives VfB Stuttgart (3:30 p.m.), who have only one point more with three points. Afterwards, Hertha BSC, who is still bottom of the table, is hoping for a first sense of achievement this season at VfL Bochum (5.30 p.m.). Up-and-coming Bochum has won three points so far. Borussia Mönchengladbach only has one point before the home game against Arminia Bielefeld (7.30 p.m. / all DAZN). Arminia started the season with three draws.
