The Guatemalan president, Alejandro Giammattei, arrived Monday at the Presidential House on his first official visit to the country. The agreement will facilitate domestic flights between both countries.
The president of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei and from El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, signed a bilateral agreement on Monday flights with “open skies”, a foundation to promote full integration and reciprocal opportunities.
This agreement will allow all air operations between the two territories to be considered local or domestic. “We will be able to have flights at a lower cost,” said the president of Guatemala after signing the document with his Salvadoran counterpart. As reported by the Presidency, the price of flights between both countries will be reduced and the passage through the airspace of the two nations will be made more expeditious.
Giammattei arrived Monday afternoon at the Presidential House on his first official visit to the country since he took office on January 14. Then both leaders held a private meeting in which they addressed economic and social development issues.
“I would expect that in the coming weeks we could make it concrete with Honduras,” he anticipated as part of the announcement and his determination in support of regional integration.

This agreement will allow flights between both countries to be national (domestic) and save time on passenger transfers. In addition, it will contribute to the development of trade and tourism, he said.
After that signing of the agreement, a press conference will be held to be formalized before the population.
“We are going to announce the installation of flights between Guatemala and El Salvador as domestic flights, we will not have to make those big lines,” he said.
He also said that the two countries will announce their willingness for the disappearance of the borders “for short-term people” shortly. He also mentioned that three to four months could announce “the free transit of goods between Guatemala and El Salvador.”
“These actions will greatly facilitate trade,” said the President of Guatemala.
The Guatemalan president will leave the national territory this Monday and return to his country at night.
Last Wednesday, the Salvadoran vice president, Félix Ulloa, announced this agreement in the neighboring nation, during the press conference in which he participated along with his counterpart Guillermo Castillo. “This is proof that integration can move forward. ”, said the vice president.
