‘Bug bugs in Intel’s Skylake were the last straw for Apple’

Apple had been playing with that idea for some time three years ago, but the poor quality of the Skylake processor family was the proverbial drop that overflowed the bucket.

There came many complaints about Skylake customers and, in a way, Apple became our number one complaints reporter, Piednoël says as he simulates a flight in the video. “If your customer finds about as many bugs as you do then you’re not on the right track,” says Piednoël.

Intel produced CPU chips according to the Skylake architecture from 2015 to 2017. That last year was also the moment that Piednoël himself chose to quit his 20-year career at Intel.

He is now chief architect at Mercedes Benz North America.
