Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini extended their expiring contract with Juventus on Monday. Both experienced Italians continue with the leader of the Serie A for a year longer.
Buffon, 42, is entering his 26th season as a pro. The legendary goalkeeper started his career with Parma and then played for Juventus for years, returning to Paris Saint-Germain after one season last year.
Buffon, who has won nine league titles with Juventus, is in principle a reserve goalkeeper behind Wojciech Szczesny this season. However, the 176-time international came into action during all Coppa Italia matches and also in some league games.
Chiellini (35), who competes with Matthijs de Ligt and hardly played this season due to a cruciate ligament injury, stands for his 21st season as pro. Like Buffon, the defender played for Juventus for the majority of his career.
Juventus is on track to become champion again this season, which would be Buffon’s tenth and Chiellini’s ninth league title with the club. ‘De Oude Dame’ is four points apart from number two Lazio, with ten rounds to go.
