Budvar will raise draft beer from January. And there will be a plate and a bottle

According to the PR manager of the brewery, Markéta Ježková, a pint of Budvar beer will increase in price by about fifty pennies. The reason is rising costs, which for some commodities are rising by hundreds of percent, said Budvar’s sales director for the domestic market on Thursday, Petr Kubín.

“From January 2022, we will increase the price of draft beer by about three percent. And we plan to increase the price of packaged beer during the first quarter of next year, “said Ježková. The state-owned brewery has gradually increased the price of beer to export customers this year.

According to Kubín, the price for a pint of beer will rise by about fifty pennies. The main reason why the national brewery will rise in price is rising costs. “I don’t think I will say anything revealing at all: these are the costs associated with the production and especially the distribution of beer. Unfortunately, rising energy and costs – whether for wages or for transport – are forcing us to make that adjustment. Some costs even rise in the hundreds of percent, some in units. We made a calculation and it turned out that we had to make this adjustment. In principle, it is an increase in costs, “said Kubín.

Budweiser Budvar expects to pay hundreds of millions of crowns more for materials next year than this year. This is the impact of rising energy, fuel and other raw material prices on operations. The can supplier has already announced to the brewery that it will increase in price by tens of percent. The director of Budvar, Petr Dvořák, told ČTK in October.

According to the director, Budvar fulfilled its growth plan for the first three quarters of this year. Revenues from beer will be around CZK 2.9 billion this year, last year it was 2.73 billion, according to the annual report.

Since October 1 this year, the largest Czech brewery, Plzeňský Prazdroj, has risen in price by an average of three percent. It affected most products, on average the price rose by 46 pennies per pint. For the first time in three years, this also concerned draft beers. Staropramen raised prices on July 1. The Samson brewery in České Budějovice, which belongs to the Belgian-Brazilian company AB InBev (ABI), has raised the price of a pint of draft beer by a crown since 1 November. He is negotiating the price of the bottle with the chains.

Budvar brewed 1.73 million hectoliters of beer with 670 employees last year, the most in its 125 years of existence. Revenues from the sale of products and services increased by 0.4 percent to CZK 2.81 billion, they were record-breaking. For the second year in a row, net turnover exceeded three billion crowns. Budvar increased its profit after tax by less than ten percent to 305 million crowns last year, according to the annual report.
