“BSP Leader Ninova Outlines Plan to Solve Bulgaria’s Political and Economic Crisis”

N the People’s Assembly should be the solution to the problems, not part of them, “BSP for Bulgaria” will make efforts to make this happen. BSP leader Cornelia Ninova said this in a statement from the parliamentary rostrum during the first session of the 49th parliament, BTA reported.

Each of us in the campaign has met many people with different opinions and expectations,

but they are all united in one request to us – to have stability, security and to live better. This is our common task. It can’t go on like this anymore,” said Ninova.

She noted that the country is in a severe political and institutional crisis,

decline in economic forecasts for the development of Bulgaria, inflation, poverty, social tension and risk for parliamentary democracy. The solution to these problems is here, in this hall, we must find it, the BSP leader addressed the deputies.

Ninova noted that the socialists will focus on five tasks. As the first of them, she singled out the budget for 2023.

Mr. President, you made a big mistake by refusing last year to introduce a budget for 2023, Ninova said.

Now you will have to listen to Mr. Borisov, who says: “Either you support me for a regular government, or there is no budget,” she commented. If there is no regular government, there remains yours or a new official one, but without money, added the BSP leader.

Ninova declared itself a social budget, with no risk to financial stability.

We will not support a budget that increases taxes, freezes incomes and takes away social benefits, said the BSP leader. It remains absolutely important for us that the minimum wage of 500 thousand working poor become 50% of the average from July 1 of this year, and not from January 1 next year, she pointed out.

We will ensure that only laws directly related to the Recovery and Resilience Plan are passed,

and not with private interests, Ninova said. She noted the fight against corruption and judicial reform as another priority. The fourth important issue for us is Schengen, the fifth is the issue of war and peace, Ninova pointed out and reaffirmed the BSP’s position for Bulgaria’s neutrality regarding the war in Ukraine and finding a peaceful solution. “No” to military support, God forbid, and to manpower, she also stated.

Ninova expressed hope that, after everyone in the parliament is unanimous on the issue of Schengen, they will join their efforts and achieve what is owed to the Bulgarian people.

In order to fulfill all this, a working parliament and a regular government are needed, Ninova pointed out. The decision is here in this hall, the responsibility lies with the first – GERB, first, but not enough, she commented. The leader of the BSP noted that in two years we have gone through everything – ultimatums, a project of a minority government, a project of an expert cabinet, a party cabinet, and none of this has come to fruition. “I hope we have learned from this difficult experience – from crisis to crisis and further down. We no longer have the right to this, people have no patience,” Ninova concluded.
