Brussels: Spain submits a formal request to borrow €84 billion from the ‘Next Generation EU’ funds.

The Executive continues working on the addendum in order to present its final and formal version to Brussels in the coming weeks

The Minister of Finance and Public Function, María Jesús Montero, has advanced this Thursday that Spain has already communicated to the European Commission its willingness to request the 84,000 million euros of loans that correspond to the country of the European funds ‘Next Generation EU’ .

“I can announce that we have already communicated to the European Commission the willingness to request the 84,000 million euros corresponding to the part of the loans,” said the Minister of Finance during her speech at the ‘Wake Up Spain 2023’ event, organized by ‘The Spanish’.

The Government has been holding meetings with the regional governments, parliamentary groups and social agents for months to prepare the addendum to the Recovery Plan, with which an additional 7,700 million euros will be mobilized in transfers and 84,000 million euros in loans, which will be added to the 70,000 million euros of the first phase of the Plan, approved on July 13, 2021.

At the end of the year, the Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño presented a first draft of this addendum, on which the Executive continues to work in order to present its final and formal version to Brussels in the coming weeks, as confirmed to Europe. Press government sources.

But previously, the loan request has already been formally submitted to the European Commission. With these resources and the additional transfers, the Government intends to concentrate investments and reforms on promoting industrialization and strategic autonomy in the fields of energy, agri-food, industrial, technological and digital, reinforcing investments in the 12 strategic projects (Perte ) already approved and underway.
