Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire called on Friday
companies to pay a tax-free bonus to their employees, especially those who “had the courage to go to their place of
job “. “I invite all the federations, all the big companies which have a profit-sharing agreement, in particular in vital sectors like the food-processing industry or the large-scale distribution, to pay this premium of 1.000 euros totally tax-exempt to their employees”, declared the minister on LCI.
He spoke of “employees who have the courage to go to their workplace, who sometimes do so with fear in their stomachs” and “who are worried, to whom we must provide a certain number of answers on their health security” . The Minister recalled that companies had until June 30 to pay this tax-free premium up to 1,000 euros and on which does not weigh social charges, that is to say that it costs the employer only what he pays directly to the employee.
This bonus, created following the “yellow vests” crisis of winter 2018/19, was renewed in 2020 but only for companies having a profit-sharing agreement for their employees. Signing this type of agreement has been simplified to encourage SMEs to sign it. More generally, Bruno Le Maire replied “yes, of course” to the question of whether the government was studying the idea of a bonus that would reward those who continue to work in this crisis.
