Rock legend Bruce Springsteen used his visit to Jimmy Fallon’s ‘The Tonight Show’ to end a long-running debate.
On Twitter, there has long been major disagreement about the correct lyrics to Springsteen’s classic “Thunder Road” from the album “Born to Run,” released in 1975.
The album is considered Springsteen’s breakthrough and has since sold millions of copies worldwide.

The debate on Twitter revolves around the opening line of the iconic song. It reads as follows: “The screen door flaps, Mary’s dress sways”, or “The screen door flaps, Mary’s dress sways” depending on which side of the debate you’re on. The dispute is therefore whether it is “sways” or “waves” that is correct.
Fallon took part in this debate and confronted Springsteen with what was correct when he guested on Fallon’s show on November 14th.
– Okay, I knew I would get this question, so I’ll be prepared, Springsteen replies.

He then finds a copy of the album and puts on his reading glasses to applause from the audience.
– This album is almost fifty years old and fifty years ago I was a sociopath. I was extremely worried about every little detail revolving around the music, the album, the album cover and the lyrics. Everything is tuned to be perfect and accurate. The lyrics of “Thunder road” are in the album, the correct lyrics.
Springsteen opens the album and pushes his glasses up to the bridge of his nose.
– The screen door bangs, leser han.
He pauses briefly before looking up in surprise from the LP.
As she’s about to continue reading, Fallon jumps to the floor and says the answer will come after a short pause, but a relieved audience quickly realizes she’s joking.
– I have been singing “sways” for almost fifty years. “The screen door flaps, Mary’s dress flutters,” Springsteen continues.
– What? Are they “waves”?, comes immediately from Fallon.
– This is wrong, Springsteen replies pointing to the album and shaking his head with laughter.
A confused Fallon has to conclude that he’s more confused now than before he asked.

Record release
73-year-old Springsteen visited Fallon in connection with the release of the ‘Only the Strong Stand Alive’ album. It was released on November 11 on Colombia Records.
The album is Springsteen’s 21st studio album and joins an impressive lineup of releases from the singer-songwriter. The album is a pure cover album where Springsteen honors the soul music of the 60s and 70s. Dagbladet reviewer gave one to the album five on the dice.
