Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon at New York reopening concert

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the concert in June. With the show, the city wants to show the world that it has left the corona pandemic behind. “It’s going to be a great moment for the city, marking our rebirth, marking our comeback,” De Blasio said at a news conference on Thursday. “And it will be one of the biggest Central Park concerts in history.”

A date has not yet been officially announced, but it looks like it is due to take place on August 21. The artists perform on the renowned Great Lawn in the park, where Carole King (1973), Elton John (1980) and Luciano Pavarotti (1993) among others gave a show for hundreds of thousands of people.

In total, the line-up for the three-hour show consists of eight “iconic” stars. It is not yet known who the other artists are. The city leaves the planning to 89-year-old producer Clive Davis, who previously worked with Springsteen, as well as Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston.

The concert, which will be broadcast on TV worldwide, can be attended by 60,000 spectators.
