Brown: ‘Don’t think that Red Bull and Verstappen will last a whole season’

The 2020 season is about to start in Austria and there is of course plenty of speculation about who the team will challenge the dominant Mercedes this season. Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, at least thinks it’s not Ferrari, but Red Bull is that this year has the best papers to make it difficult for the silver arrows.

Brown did say that he is not sure whether Max Verstappen and the Austrian team will actually be able to put pressure on the world champions throughout the season. “I think 2020 and 2021 will be mostly the same as what we saw in 2019,” Brown told Formula1.com. “I think the midfield will be even closer together.”

“Looking at the winter tests, it looks like Mercedes is going to be dominant again this year,” Brown continues. “And because of the rules, we are not allowed to adapt much to our cars. I anticipate that Mercedes will do quite well in 2020 and 2021. It looks like Red Bull has taken a big step forward, so I think they will be following Mercedes. But I’m not sure they can take Mercedes over the course of an entire season. As for Ferrari, it is difficult to say. Many people think they will not really have the speed this year. We don’t know, I think it will soon become clear where they are, ” said Brown.
