NEW YORK (AP) – A street pipe broke down Monday morning and caused severe flooding in Manhattan, particularly in the areas surrounding the famous Lincoln Center.

Underground trains were suspended in the area and water flooded the streets several streets around.

“To go through here you have to use a raft,” said Michael Romero, a 27-year-old city resident.

“This is crazy … I didn’t even wear boots today,” he added in statements to the New York Post.

Abigail Marie, 33, of Manhattan, said firefighters came quickly after the streets “flooded a lot, in all directions.”

“You have to be careful, there are huge puddles everywhere and they are deeper than they seem,” she told the Post.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that there would be delays on several subway routes.
