September 13th every year is designated as “World Sepsis Day”. Sepsis refers to a systemic severe inflammatory reaction caused by infection, which may lead to the need for amputation of certain parts of the body, organ failure, and even shock and death. It kills more people than cancer. A few days ago, a British woman shared that she originally only injured her leg in a boating accident on vacation, but within a month it became seriously infected and evolved into a condition that required amputation to save her life.

According to a report by the British newspaper “The Mirror”, 42-year-old Vicki Paris mentioned that she went on vacation to the Greek island of Crete in 2018. While paddling in the sea, her left foot was accidentally injured. He was caught on a sharp object and developed redness, swelling and a slight infection, which was treated and immobilized in a cast. Later, in the fourth week when Vicki went to the hospital regularly to check the wound, when the doctor took off the cast, they found that part of her left leg had also fallen off.

Vicky said her left leg was amputated below the knee because of sepsis, which meant she would have only weeks to live if it was not removed in time.

At first, Vicky’s blood sugar was out of control and her mental condition was quite poor. She had to take strong painkillers to deal with the tingling sensation caused by wearing the prosthetic limb. To make matters worse, Vicky would suffer from inexplicable pain every night late at night. Feeling phantom pain. Since 2020, Vicki has found suitable medical marijuana and successfully ended the terrifying hallucinations caused by her brain.

In this regard, Dr. Ron Daniels, Vice Chairman of the Global Sepsis Alliance, reminded that if any of the following 6 symptoms occur, including slurred or confused speech, extreme pain in muscles and joints, and no urination for a day , severe difficulty breathing, feeling like you are going to die, skin discoloration or excessive paleness, you should seek medical treatment as soon as possible.
