British Prime Minister Johnson’s right-hand man left, but not immediately

Dominic Cummings, the chief adviser to British Prime Minister Johnson, is leaving at the end of this year. He confirms that himself opposite the BBC.

Cummings’ announced departure follows a few turbulent days in the British Prime Minister’s residence on Downing Street. Communications chief Lee Cain, a staunch ally of Cummings, resigned this week after reports of internal struggles in the British cabinet. After that, there was speculation about Cummings’ position.

Cummings told British broadcaster that rumors that he would leave immediately were fabricated. He says he’s been thinking about quitting for some time and refers to a blog from January, in which he already wrote that he wants to make himself “redundant” within the cabinet at the end of this year. A source confirms to the BBC that Cummings did indeed leave before Christmas.
