British media: Boris Johnson’s fate was a dime on its side

“I can’t thank them enough. They saved my life,” said British Prime Minister Johnson of the health workers who treated him in intensive care from Monday to Thursday. Johnson’s first brief statement since his hospitalization regarding his corona infection sounds more serious than the relatively positive tone that the British government has taken in recent days.

It can also be concluded from reconstructions in British media that concerns about Johnson’s health were great. “It’s fiftyfifty”, would have been within the government last Monday about his chances of survival, writes The Sunday Times. The quality newspaper reports just like The Mail on Sunday that cabinet members prayed for 55-year-old Johnson.

At the time, government statements emphasized that the prime minister had been transferred to the IC as a precaution, in line with Johnson’s previous statements. He had called his complaints “mild” and “bothersome”, but no more than that. Now his friends and acquaintances tell British media they wish Johnson had gone to hospital earlier.

The Guardian spoke with acquaintances and (former) colleagues from Johnson. From these conversations it can be concluded that Johnson himself insisted that the government put his sickbed into perspective as much as possible. He would have always viewed illness as a sign of weak morality, conservative former MP Paul Goodman told the newspaper.

Johnson, a biographer and great admirer of Winston Churchill, just like the British Prime Minister in crisis, would not be upset by personal adversity. Before his hospitalization, Johnson recorded videos on his phone in which he cheerfully spoke of the government’s “struggle” against the virus. He worked from home isolation, coughing and with a fever.

Boris Johnson spoke of mild complaints at the end of March:
