TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Fast food restaurant Burger King in the UK asking customers to buy burgers from competitor McDonald’s.
This unusual suggestion among restaurant business competitors was chirped directly by Burger King in the UK on Monday, asking their customers to also buy from other fast food restaurants to support them through the pandemic crisis of the coronavirus, even if they don’t buy from Burger King.
“We never thought we would ask you to do this, but a restaurant employing thousands of staff really needs your support right now,” wrote Burger King UK’s tweet, which mentions KFC, Subway and Domino’s Pizza, as well as other chains.
“So, if you want to help, continue to treat yourself to delicious food via delivery home, take home, or via drive,” said Burger King, quoted from CNN, November 3, 2020.
“Getting a Whopper is always the best, but ordering a Big Mac isn’t a bad thing either,” read the message.

The official Twitter accounts for Pizza Hut, Five Guys, Greggs, Taco Bell, Papa John and Leon were also mentioned by Burger King UK, as were other independent food outlets.
During the first lockdown in March, all restaurants were included McDonald’s and Burger King closed, and were allowed to reopen in July, the Daily Mail reported
Under the new lockdown, which takes effect at midnight on Thursday, hotel establishments and restaurants can provide takeaway and delivery services, but will not be able to deliver alcohol or on-site service.
As Burger King UK attracts a sense of solidarity with the broader food industry, Burger King’s North American operations have taken a more confrontational approach to promotion.
The burger chain offers free Whopper to customers who drive through one of the “world’s scariest places,” five closed restaurants once operated by rivals McDonald’s (MCD), Wendy’s, Sonic or Jack in the Box.
As part of a Halloween themed promotion, customers within 100 meters of one of the listed locations can confirm their location on the app Burger King to receive a free Whopper coupon.
