Researchers in Vienna used the material dating back 32,000 years ago, collected by its Russian peers.
It is a plant of the variety stenophylla silene that were extracted from depths between 20 and 40 meters below the surface of frozen grains, which had been deposited by an ice age squirrel.
Scientists are now seeking to sequence the plant’s genome to learn the secret of its resistance.
