Bring Bamboo, Residents Dismantle Masses of Action Against Omnibus Law in Jogja

SuaraJogja.id – Action to reject the Omnibus Law The Job Creation Bill in Jogja is hot. There was chaos between the masses of action from The Alliance of the Mobile People (ARB) with residents during the demonstration, which previously took place at the intersection of Jalan Colombo Gejayan, Depok, Sleman, continued at the intersection of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Sleman, Friday (14/8/2020).

There was also an action burning tires in the middle of the intersection of UIN Sunan Kalijaga at around 18.20 WIB. A banner was also unfurled against the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Bill.

“Reject the Omnibus of the Job Creation Bill. We are here to reject the ratification of the regulations that harm the public,” shouted a number of people, Friday night.

The action of burning tires then triggered local residents to disperse the demonstration. There was friction between the residents and the masses until the police intervened at around 19:15 WIB.

Some residents shouted at the crowd to disperse because the Solo-Jogja road access was totally jammed. The vehicle from the direction of UIN Sunan Kalijaga was stuck in a traffic jam so that there was an action of throwing stones at each other.

The residents and the masses became increasingly tense at around 20.00 WIB. A number of residents were seen carrying bamboo to beat back the masses.

Citizen and mass friction then prompted the police to act. The crowd, consisting of hundreds of people, were asked to disperse and be escorted back to the UGM Roundabout, passing the route from UIN-Simpang Tiga Gejayan-UGM Roundabout.

Separately, the Sleman Police Chief AKBP Anton Firmanto explained that there had been a misunderstanding between the residents and the masses that caused friction. However, his party immediately took steps to reduce tensions.

“Maybe the residents saw that it was already evening. They also meant that the masses paid attention to traffic conditions. But everything went well. Maybe the residents also felt disturbed earlier,” he explained.

Anton explained that the action that invited the masses to take to the streets was recommended to end at 18.00 WIB. He said that the activity was only in the form of a notification sent by the action committee.
