Briefly in the Kleinwalsertal: Neos announce advertisement

Enthusiastic residents who received the Chancellor in Vorarlberg sometimes did not adhere to the Corona minimum distance.

The first appointment of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) outside of Vienna had triggered some outrage on social media and an announcement by the Neos for ten weeks. Because in the Kleinwalsertal, many visibly enthusiastic people came to receive Kurz – and, as can be seen on a video from the “Vorarlberger Nachrichten”, did not adhere to the minimum Corona distance.

The Chancellor also addressed this in an improvised short speech: “I ask all of you to keep your distance a bit,” he said after he had made his way through the crowd to the entrance – which was answered with a few loud laughs. In short, Governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP), Mayor Andi Haid and other politicians from Vorarlberg made every effort to keep the entrance to the building converted into a speech grandstand. Masks were on the newspaper’s YouTube video only a few to be seen, some simply wore them around their necks.

Neos MP Sepp Schellhorn was outraged: “That is unbelievable! Is that real? The creative artists, theater and filmmakers have to worry about hygiene regulations. Landlords for distance regulations with masks and then that,” he tweeted – and announced an advertisement : “Mr. @karlnehammer do your job! We will post an ad!”, Said another tweet from the pink MP.

Federal Chancellery: “Partly the minimum distance was unfortunately not kept”

Although efforts were made in the organization in advance and during the visit, residents and media representatives “unfortunately did not keep the minimum distance”, the Federal Chancellery said. The agreed appointment with the municipal representatives of Mittelberg took place in two small rounds and with a safety distance of two meters. And the community had informed the population before the visit that due to the corona rules, a short public meeting was not possible. On the way to the Walserhaus, the chancellor himself asked the population and the media representatives on the street several times and called for compliance with the distance rules.

“You know how difficult it is to keep the distance, especially if the number of infections decreases,” the statement continues. Nevertheless, it is important to continue to follow the regulations: “Regardless of whether you meet the Chancellor or friends on the street: the distance must be kept.” The mask is no different in the federal states than in Vienna: when moving in closed rooms, he wears mouth-nose protection, but not outdoors.
