Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald: Grandchildren’s trick and other frauds on the phone in Markgräflerland – the police issue a current warning

There is currently a strong accumulation of calls from phone fraudsters, especially in the Markgräflerland area.

The scammers pretend to be grandchildren or relatives on the phone and fake an emergency. In further discussions, money will be asked for.

In the cases that have become known so far, no money was handed over.

The police warned again and gave the following tips and advice:
– The police or authorities will never ask you for money over the phone.
– Do not reveal any details about your financial situation or your valuables over the phone.
– Don’t let yourself be pressured on the phone. Just hang up.
– Do NOT use the callback function, otherwise you could end up with the caller and the perpetrator.
– Never give money to strangers.
– As a matter of principle, do not allow strangers into your apartment.
– Request an official ID from alleged officials, e.g. police officers.
– Inform older friends or relatives about the scam.
– Have you experienced something suspicious or have you possibly become a victim? Report immediately to emergency number 110.
