Breda calls on residents to keep waste at home for longer, because the environmental street is almost suffocating

It is now becoming a familiar picture: traffic jams with cars in front of the gate of the environmental street at Spinveld. Trunks and trailers filled with things for the dump.

Corona Rules
In the environmental street, the conona rules also apply that visitors must keep at least a meter and a half away. As a result, only seven visitors are allowed on the site at one time, which makes the waiting time even longer.

The corona crisis also plays a role in the processing of the waste offered. “With the incinerators you can also see that the amount of waste is really increasing. Glass waste has to be transported to Germany and clothing is processed in Morocco. This has become a lot more difficult due to the corona crisis and the imposed border measures,” said Quaars.

Damage
It is not only busy at the Milieustraat. Much more than usual is also brought to the containers for residual waste in the neighborhoods. And that does not always go well. “Someone had even poured liquid concrete here. Then you know for yourself what the harmful consequences are if it dries up”, says Quaars.
