Brecht van Hulten and Carolina Lo Galbo will present the 5 Hour Show on SBS6. The two alternate every other week. That’s nice, says Van Hulten NU.nl. “I wouldn’t have done it otherwise. Making a talk show is top sport.”
“It seems very intense to present a talk show five days a week for nine months in a row. Matthijs van Nieuwkerk always called it top sport, and I think it is”, says the presenter. “Get on it. I wouldn’t have done that.”

Personal stories that fit current events
Of 5 Hour Show, which was previously broadcast on RTL from 1989 to 1998, will be a combination of a current affairs program and a talk show. “We are not a hard news column. We are in the afternoon, so it must also be fun and it will certainly be. But we do respond to current events and bring personal stories.”
Those stories can be about anything. “For example, in the first broadcast we have a mother and a daughter as guests who both think very differently about corona and where it comes from. The daughter is a journalist and writes for the media, her mother is a conspiracy thinker,” says the presenter.
“In such a case, we are especially curious about how you do that as a mother and daughter, if you have something so different. How do you deal with it if that plays in your family? Does that cause abrasion? How does that affect your relationship? That sort of thing is discussed with us.
In the preparations for the program, Van Hulten drew no inspiration from the broadcasts from the nineties. “The idea for this concept was already there, it is only later 5 Hour Show mentioned. But we are really going to do something different than the 5 Hour Show back in the days.”
‘I immediately felt at home’
How does the presenter feel about a program like Cash desk to switch to a talk show? “Great fun, I can’t say anything else. In the beginning it was still exciting: what will it look like? But yesterday we recorded a pilot where we pretended to be filming a real broadcast. I immediately felt at home.”
“There is a casual atmosphere and I can show some of myself”, she adds. “There is lightheartedness and seriousness and there is an occasional laugh. I can only say nice things about it so far.”
Of 5 Hour Show can be seen on SBS6 every working day at 5 p.m. from Monday. Van Hulten presents the first week of the program.
