Breast Cancer Detection and Prevention Campaign Launched | AlMomento.Net

Santo Domingo Dominican Republic. From 30 September to 1 November MAPFRE Salud ARS, in collaboration with the Sirena stores, will carry out the eighth edition of its annual “Pink Alert” campaign, to contribute to the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer.

The initiative will develop activities in this capital, Santiago de los Caballeros, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana.

It includes free medical lectures, massive advertising, and interviews. It will be carried out through mobile clinics in the main branches of the Sirena stores, in Ágora Mall, Plaza Duarte and Almacenes Iberia in San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana.

Gynecological consultations and evaluations will be offered, followed by subsequent follow-up to those who find feedback.

The campaign is being carried out on the occasion of the World Day for the Fight against Breast Cancer on 19 October. To date, according to its organizers, it has benefited more than 21,000 people nationwide.

This edition tries to show through examples that a breast exam is easier than most daily activities, such as going to the supermarket or listening to music.

Likewise, encourage more men to participate in assessments, because, although it is rare, they can also have breast cancer, the incidence of which in the Dominican Republic is 59.1 per 100,000 inhabitants, with a mortality of 26.4, a data considered alarming.

“It is essential for us to educate through the most up-to-date information about this condition and the mechanisms to discover it in a timely manner and, above all, reduce preventable risk factors,” said Doris Alburquerque, head of prevention and promotion of MAPFRE Greeting ARS, in the evaluate the initiative.
