Breaking the Rope: A Nameless Adventure While Bungee Jumping and Rarely Home

Jakarta

A tourist meets a terrible fate. The bungee jumping rope or the elastic jump is broken.

Launch CNN, Friday (24/3/2023), some bungee jumping users described it as a near death experience. Luckily for this man, he survived when his rope broke.

Footage from the horrific ordeal went viral this week. Because, a 39-year-old tourist from Hong Kong published his story.

The tourist, who asked to use only his first name Mik, bungee-jumped from a 10-floor podium in Pattaya City. He vacationed there last January.

Luckily, the jump was made over a body of water. The bungee cord snapped before Mike neared the bottom of his jump, slamming him into the water.

“I landed on the left side so the injuries were more serious there. It was as if someone had just beaten me really badly,” said Mike.

His fall was witnessed by friends who were with him at Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park. Located in the northwest of Pattaya, this theme park offers a variety of activities.

Mike said he originally went to the park to try out the shooting range, but ventured into bungee jumping after friends challenged him.

“It was very high so I closed my eyes. I planned to open my eyes again when I got back up. I realized the wire had broken when I opened my eyes and I was surrounded by water,” he said.

He managed to resurface and swim despite his feet being held up by the bottom of a broken bungee jumping rope.

“If the person doesn’t know how to swim, he will be in big trouble,” he said.

Mike said the park refunded the service fee and financed an x-ray and ultrasound scan facility in Thailand.

Nithit Intim, the park’s founder, confirmed that the accident occurred and said it was the first time he had seen a bungee jumping cord break.

“After the cable broke, our staff immediately got him out of the water, and asked him if he was okay. He said he felt bruised. So we took him to the hospital,” he said.

Intim said Mike had signed a waiver before making the jump. He also sent a photo of what he said was a signed affidavit, as well as a copy of the medical bill in Thailand.

“Our staff explained that in the event of any accident or mishap, our company will compensate for the medical bills. But the client cannot claim damages for other expenses,” said Intim.

He added that the park would be willing to pay further medical expenses in Hong Kong if receipts were provided.
