Breaking news … Metin Iyidil decision from Supreme Court

The 16th Criminal Division of the Supreme Court of Appeals made its decision on Lieutenant General Metin Iyidil, the Commander of the Combat Training and Combat Training Support.

According to the news of Fevzi Çakır, the Chamber overturned the acquittal decision against Iyidil by the Ankara Court of Appeal. The agency stated that iyidil should be punished for the “aid to the coup attempt”.

In accordance with this decision, İyidil will be tried again at the Ankara Assize Court on charges of “helping the coup attempt” from 12.5 to 20 years.

Iyidil was first sentenced to “aggravated life imprisonment” in the case where FETO was tried after the coup attempt of July 15. The Ankara Court of Appeal, which examined the file, decided on the acquittal and release of Iyidil. He was put in prison.

On the other hand, the Chamber justified the fact that the Court of Appeal ruled in the case without opening a hearing and that an incomplete examination of Iyidil’s actions was made.

In the decision, it was stated that the actions of Metin Iyidil constituted the crime “aid to the coup” according to the current file situation. However, the Chamber also asked to investigate whether Iyidil was the primary perpetrator. It was also decided to continue the detention of Iyidil. After this decision, iyidil will be tried again with a request for imprisonment from 12.5 to 20 years. The agency overturned the ex-general prisoner Hamza Koçyiğit’s aggravated life sentence and the acquittal of former lieutenant general Abdullah Barutcu.

The acquittal verdict of the former brigadier Lütfi İhsan Yanıkoğlu’s aggravated life sentence and former brigadier Mehmet Topçu and Ersal Duman were approved.
