Esteban Ocon has extended his contract with Alpine. The French racing stable reports through the official channels that the 24-year-old driver has re-signed and is now with the team until 2024. Last season, the Frenchman drove for Alpine for the first time, which was then still the Renault was called.

Ocon made his F1 debut in 2016 when he took over from Rio Haryanto at MRT. A year later, he transferred to Force India (today’s Aston Martin), where he succeeded werd Nico Hulkenberg, who left for Renault. There Ocon was active for three years, two years under the name Force India and one season when the team was renamed Racing Point. After three seasons, however, he had to leave the field, after which he was left without a permanent seat for one season. In 2019 he took on the role of reserve driver at Mercedes, which he has always been associated with as a driver in the training program throughout his F1 career. Last season, however, Ocon regained a permanent seat at Renault, where he happened to replace Hulkenberg again.

New multi-year deal with Alpine

Ocon is currently riding for the second season with the French racing stable, which is now known as Alpine. On Wednesday, the team confirmed that several more seasons will be added as Ocon has signed a new three-year contract. “I am delighted to continue with the team after this year and it is a fantastic feeling to secure my future at Alpine. We have made good progress together since I joined the team and I want to continue that journey,” is Ocon’s response to Alpine’s website, with which he took his first-ever podium in F1 last season at the Sakhir Grand Prix.

On the hunt for more successes

“We have big challenges ahead of us, especially with the new regulations in 2022,” continues Ocon. “I’m sure we can achieve our goals by working hard together and continuing the story.” A big motivation is the success he achieved last season with his first podium place. “I often think back to last year’s Sakhir Grand Prix with the podium and it motivates me to create more such special memories. I’m really looking forward to the next chapter, but for now we are very focused on this season and taking we take each race as it comes,” said Fernando Alonso’s team-mate.
