Brazil exceeds 10,000 cases and records 431 deaths by Covid-19

Brazil recorded 431 deaths associated with Covid-19, an increase of 20%, while confirmed cases of the disease caused by the new coronavirus are at 10,278, plus 13.4%, the Ministry of Health reported on Saturday. Cheers.

“Our curve is calm, it is below the curves of Spain, Italy and the United States in this period”, the executive secretary of the ministry, João Gabbardo dos Reis, assured today in a press conference in Brasília.

At the regional level, the state of São Paulo, the most populous in Brazil with about 46 million inhabitants, concentrates the largest number of cases in the entire country to date, with 260 deaths and 4,466 patients with covid-19.

Rio de Janeiro follows with 1,246 confirmed cases and 58 dead.

In just one week, the mortality rate caused by the pandemic increased from 2.9% to 4.2%, and according to health authorities, 81% of deaths correspond to people over 60 years of age.

However, the ministry has repeatedly reiterated that the actual number of cases may be greater, and that they only examine critical cases of patients admitted to hospitals, and that there are cases awaiting confirmation.

At the press conference, the minister indicated that his department is examining the possibility of creating a kind of “immunity passport”, which identifies people who have already been infected and who have fully recovered.

The ministry also reiterated the need for indigenous peoples to remain isolated in their villages to protect themselves from the disease “and for people not to travel” to their communities, to reduce the possibility of transmission of the coronavirus.

On Wednesday, Brazil confirmed the first case of coronavirus in an indigenous person in the country, following the contagion of a 20-year-old Kokama woman in the state of Amazonas (north).

The patient, an indigenous health agent in the region of the municipality of Santo António de Içá, about 200 kilometers from the border with Colombia, is said to have been infected by a case imported from a doctor who worked in the municipality and with a positive covid test. -19 after returning from vacation.
