Vinicius Junior celebrated his return to the Maracana Stadium on Thursday with his first international goal for Brazil and a superb performance in the 4-0 win against Chile.

The 21-year-old full-back played for Flamengo before sealing a transfer to Real Madrid and he excelled in his former homeland, using a neat Neymar dummy to place an angled shot past Claudio Bravo just before half-time.

The goal was wedged between Neymar and Philippe Coutinho penalties and substitute Richarlison followed up with a fourth goal in added time.

“It’s our last game in Brazil before the World Cup and we will thank the fans,” he added. “Now we have to keep working hard and doing the right things to ensure we win the title at the end of the year.”

The win was Brazil’s seventh in seven home qualifiers against Chile, who must now beat already-qualified Uruguay in their final game next Tuesday to have any hope of a place in the World Cup playoffs.

It continues Brazil’s unbeaten run under Tite in qualifying, having already secured their place in Qatar.

The win over Chile was their 13th win of qualifying, the other three games ending in a draw – with a final game against Bolivia next week.
