Boy (6) who was the only survivor of cable car drama has been kidnapped to Israel | Abroad

Eitan was the only one to survive the dramatic accident in the Italian seaside resort of Stresa. A cable car crashed on May 23 due to the cable car’s braking system not working. In total, thirteen occupants lost their lives. Eitan was seriously injured and kept in an artificial coma for a while, but eventually recovered from all his injuries. The psychological consequences would weigh more heavily: the boy lost his father (30), mother (26), brother (2) and great-grandparents (81 and 71).

An aunt of the boy, his father’s sister, has become his legal guardian since the drama in May. Eitan lives with her, but the family on his mother’s side does not agree. They also want custody of the boy and want him to move to Israel, where part of the family still lives. The judge decided otherwise: Eitan would stay in Italy with his aunt, the rest of the family was given visiting rights. During one of those visits, the boy’s grandfather did not take him back to the aunt.

‘Agreed with his parents’

In an interview with Israeli Radio 103, the maternal aunt gave her own version of the facts. “We didn’t kidnap him, we brought him home. We had to do it because we were not given any information about Eitan’s physical and mental health,” the woman said from Israel. “We brought him home because his parents would want that too. That was not possible due to the coronavirus, but it is what we agreed with them.”

The president of the Jewish community of Milan condemned “the act contrary to Italian and international law.” The public prosecutor of Pavia has meanwhile opened an investigation into the kidnapping.
