MR chairman Georges-Louis Bouchez reacted indignantly on Friday to the admission of the burkini and reserved hours for women in Flow, the first public open-air swimming pool in Brussels in 40 years, which was opened on Thursday in Anderlecht.

“Burkini allowed and reserved hours for women. The communitarian madness continues,” he tweeted. The MR will denounce this in the Brussels and federal parliament, he announced.
“Our values are being undermined by the ignorant complicity of some,” Bouchez continues. The MR chair wants State Secretary for Gender Equality, Equal Opportunities and Diversity Sarah Schlitz (Ecolo) to intervene. The relationship between coalition partners MR and Ecolo has been very tense recently, partly due to the appointment by Schlitz of Ihsane Haouach, who wears a headscarf, as government commissioner at the Institute for Equality between Women and Men.
