The pessimists regained the upper hand on Wall Street on Thursday. After the price rises in the middle of the week, some of the most important stock indices fell significantly.

Der US-Leitindex Dow Jones Industrial lost 0.59 percent to 31,773.36 points after climbing over 32,000 points for the first time on Wednesday. The market-wide S&P 500
fell 0.93 percent to 3889.02 points and the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 dropped by 1.53 percent to 13099.30 points.

The rising yields on the bond markets for fear of rising inflation depressed investor sentiment, commented analyst Craig Erlam from broker Oanda Europe. The price gains posted the day before faded again, triggered by soothing statements by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell on monetary policy and positive vaccine news from Johnson & Johnson . Investors are more and more convinced that inflation is increasing and causing the central bank to tighten its monetary policy, explained Erlam./la/he
