Boris Johnson evaluates easing restrictions by mid-February – AlbertoNews

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Monday that the government will evaluate the possibility of “relaxing some measures” anticovid in mid-February, but could not say when schools will reopen in England.

The head of the Government visited the Barnet football club in north London this morning to see up close how the vaccination of the most vulnerable groups takes place there.

“There has been a great achievement in rolling out this vaccination program and people want to see that we make sure we don’t throw it away by prematurely loosening (the restrictions) and then (having) another big increase in infections,” Johnson told the media during that visit.

The United Kingdom maintains containment measures, with the closure of schools and non-essential shops, to contain the spread of covid-19, but the ‘premier’ is in charge of making decisions about England and in the case of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, are the respective autonomous authorities.

Regarding the reopening of schools, which have been closed since the beginning of January, the prime minister admitted the “frustration of parents” but insisted that he could not set a timetable for the return of students to face-to-face classes.

“Believe me, I would like nothing more than to reopen the schools, I have made efforts to keep the schools open as much as I could,” admitted the conservative politician, referring to the closure of educational establishments due to the increase in infections.

“We want to see schools reopened as quickly as possible, (but) we want to do that in a way that’s consistent with fighting this epidemic and keeping the level of infection low,” he added.

Among other things, Johnson said that travelers entering the United Kingdom are undergoing a quarantine period in hotels to control the possible spread of other variants of the coronavirus.

Health Minister Matt Hancock admitted on Sunday that UK health authorities have detected 77 cases of the South African variant of the coronavirus in the country, but all of them are under strict observation.

The United Kingdom has banned flights from South Africa, Portugal and several Latin American countries due to the appearance of new strains, while requiring a negative test for covid-19 before entering the country.

According to the latest official figures, the United Kingdom registered 610 new deaths from coronavirus yesterday, down from the 1,348 reported on Saturday, as well as another 30,004 infections.

The population immunization plan, which began in the United Kingdom on December 8, is made with preparations from Pfizer / BioNTech and Oxford / AstraZeneca.
