Circumnavigator Boris Herrmann may soon be pleased about the award of the Federal Cross of Merit. Niels Annen, Minister of State in the Foreign Office, made a corresponding proposal to the Hamburg State Chancellery. As the first German participant in the Vendée Globe, Herrmann had “achieved outstanding achievements as an athlete,” said the Hamburg SPD member of the Bundestag. The 39-year-old also takes his “responsibility and role model function very seriously, particularly towards the younger generations outside of sport.” On his world tour Herrmann had loaded a scientific measuring device to record data on the C02 content, the temperature and the salt content of the water. | 01/29/2021 1:08 PM
